Which iPhone Case Fits My Phone? A Model-by-Model Fit Guide

The single most common accessory return is a case that "nearly" fits. Here's how to avoid being that order.

Why cases aren't interchangeable

Between generations Apple changes three things that break case compatibility:

  • Body dimensions — even a millimetre of height or width means the case won't seat.
  • Camera array size and position — the biggest culprit. A case for a smaller camera bump will physically not close over a larger one, and a case with an oversized cutout leaves the lenses exposed.
  • Button and port placement — including the Action button (iPhone 15 Pro onward) and the Camera Control button (iPhone 16 series), which need their own openings.

That last point matters right now: a case cut for iPhone 15 will cover the iPhone 16's Camera Control button even if the body dimensions look close.

How to find your exact model

On the phone: Settings → General → About → Model Name. It states it plainly, e.g. "iPhone 14 Pro Max."

By eye, quick tells:

  • Three rear cameras = a Pro or Pro Max
  • Two rear cameras diagonal = iPhone 12/13 base or mini
  • Two rear cameras vertical = iPhone 11 or earlier base
  • A dedicated button below the power button on the right = Camera Control (iPhone 16 series)
  • A switch replaced by a button on the left = Action button (15 Pro and later)

Never assume "Pro" and "Pro Max" share a case. They never do.

The sizes people confuse most

These pairs get mixed up constantly because their dimensions are close:

  • iPhone 14 Pro vs iPhone 15 Pro — similar size, different camera surround and the 15 Pro's Action button
  • iPhone 13 vs iPhone 14 — very close bodies, but camera cutouts differ
  • iPhone 12 vs iPhone 12 Pro — same footprint, different camera array size
  • Any base model vs its Plus/Max — completely different sizes

If you own one of these and buy by eye, you have roughly a coin-flip chance.

How to order correctly from us

Every case on our store lists its compatible models in the variant picker on the product page. Pick your exact model there — if your model isn't in the list, that case genuinely isn't made for it, and we'd rather you know before ordering than after.

Our magnetic cases cover the iPhone 12 through 16 series, including Pro and Pro Max variants. Cases for older models (11 and earlier) aren't part of the range because those phones don't support MagSafe, which is the point of the line.

What "MagSafe-compatible" adds to fit

Magnetic accessories add one more compatibility layer: the magnet ring has to line up with the phone's charging coil. Because Apple keeps that ring in a consistent position across MagSafe-era iPhones, a properly built magnetic case aligns on any of them — but the body still has to be the right model.

In short: magnets are generation-agnostic, case bodies are not.
